[OST] Downwell: Full Original Soundtrack
Downwell is a vertical, on foot 2D shooter published by Devolver Digital and developed by Moppin. The game was released on October 15, 2015 on Steam and iOS with an Android version released 5 months later. Devolver has been slowly coming out with more versions over the past few years.
In fact, Downwell just released on Nintendo Switch with the game being almost 4 years old.
Here's some links to the Bandcamp, iOS, Android, Steam, PS4/Vita and Switch pages. Credit goes to Eirik Suhrke for creating this awesome soundtrack!

limbo var.2 perfectly describes my mental state rn
Tomato Funk gives off massive Earthbound vibes.
I am still obsessed with it.
All Limbo songs 12:22 26:23 33:05 I wish there was a video or playlist that's just these three songs on loop. Great atmosphere
This game was such a treat, easy purchase for anyone looking into buying it, the quality is great for the small price!
Can someone make an extended version of ilkae?
it's been a while since i played this game but im sure none of these tracks are the ones that play in the level transition screen?
I love this game so much, just one question, what is tomato funk used for?
Theres a secret tomato you can get at the end of the game right before the boss only if you dont go into any side rooms/shops throughout the entire run Tomato funk plays in said room with tomato
something unmentioned with the explaination here is that the tomato is the best object you can obtain in the game, giving you 10 hp, and over 10 extra energy.
@@absentisomnis8650 but the laser....temptation...MUST HAVE LASER
Level 1: not to bad Level 2: something spooky is happening Level 3: I can't breathe LIMBO: we aren't getting to safety ground Shop: what you got for me Underwater shop: hope its not wet Boss: Its a never ending nightmare
i gonna main welltaro on fraymakers and indie pogo!
Deceptive title, everyone knows the real Downwell soundtrack is just the gunboots sound effects
Facts
This is by far the most pathetic version of ptsd gunfire.
Man, Uroboros is awesome.
I like catacombs more
Ppl who haven't played this game aint got a childhood
I'll have to try it out. I'm joking I already love it without playing it.
The third song is so calming
It sounds so strange without gunshots and stomping
Man this track really hits different, love it
which one?
@@nleolnator why not all
@@cainhurst7546 TRUE
Total love that music
Good thing I’m not the only one who plays this game in their spare rime
Uroboros might be the best example of 3 against 2 being a super powerful poly-rhythm. it's just so cooooooool!
for reaaal it slaps!
What time signature is Razer Girl in? I cant really tap the beats out lol.
@@ivanfregozo slow 6/4. basically the high synth that plays on the left channel falls almost always on the beat
@@ivanfregozo also the strings synth is on a full 6/4 bar cycle, so you can also use that to measure the length of each bar!
@@jackpaice Hey, thank you for the response, and thank you for the help too! I totally see what you mean about 6/4 now, and I ran a metronome to it and found out that its actually 6/4 with 88 bpm.
Catacombs track reminds me of Super House of Dead Ninjas
Look out below...
so that's how it goes after the first ten minutes
ha
Are you on Spotify?
I recently played this game and it’s the best
0:26:23 10. ilkae - Limbo var. 1
this is like the best fucking game and best soundtrack srsly
I can fully bob to this this is mad
Limbo var. 1 (26:23) sounds like something from a Toonami bump. It's great :)
3:52 very nice
I love how the songs start out 8 bit and slowly stop being 8 bit
on the contrary believe it or not these are all songs possible via the 8bit format. in fact games like metroid have similar music styles like this within it's dungeons.
well, except for some of the special hidden songs in the game, like tomato funk. those are clearly 16 bit
man i really like the limbo and final boss themes tomato funk is also cool
eltiolavara9 I keep finding you fucking everywhere wtf
xd
I recognize you
@@hulguntristan6268 hihi
Tomato funk <3
I don't know why but "limbo" sounds oddly relaxing to me.
Same man
Same
I LOVE YOU BRO <3
Spoilers: I have a stupid theory (More of an idea than anything) that the themes (Being Cavern, Catacombs, Aquifer, and Limbo) all represent different feelings. Cavern's theme, represents the excitement at the beginning of an adventure, Catacombs being unwanted, Aquifer being sadness, Limbo being confusion, and the boss theme being a final struggle. While I can't explain the first 2, I can explain the last 3. The aquifer theme represents sadness, because at the bottom of a well, would usually be water, and at the bottom of any well is where things would end up. The theme represents the sadness that what you are looking for isn't here. The Limbo theme represents confusion, as surely, the bottom of any well would have the water, which is what the Aquifer theme represents. The Limbo theme also adds in a little hope, as maybe this wasn't a complete waste of time. The Boss theme represents one final struggle to get to the bottom, as surely, your cat, would be there, which it is.
Probably overthinking this too much :P
It's not a stupid theory, it's a good interpretation. :)
My theory is that you jumped down a well to save your cat lol
i haven't actually beaten the game so i may not be caught up on the silly vertical gun boot game's lore, but i think that the structure of the music also has a meaning. The first 2 songs are almost entirely 8-bit and feature complete audio cuts in the middle. ( 0:20, 1:35, 3:32 ) i think the 8-bit music represents the character's adventurous spirit, and the cuts in it are the character thinking he should go back to the surface (which the surface theme is mostly silence) in the catacombs music, one of the cuts isn't complete. It slowly fades into silence and there's a ticking in the background. ( 4:22 ) I think this could represent the character abandoning the idea of going back to the surface. There are no more cuts in the other areas' themes. The soundtrack for the aquifier features high-definition strings in the background of a generally soothing melody. The melody is calming, because the character found the one normal thing to see in a well - water. But the strings (and other hd sounds in general) represent his fear - how much deeper does it go? does it ever end? what else is there to see? The limbo theme is mostly made up of melodic high-ish definition noise. This may represent that the character is overwhelmed with fear and his thought are chaotic. But part of him wants to go deeper. this theory kinda just crumbles at the boss song
20:02
+ChaoticFry Reminds me of the Wii Shop music.
HOLY SHIT IT DOES I BELEIVE THE FIRST FEW SECONDS ARE THE ACTUAL THEME
Can you add the Android donwload link in the description? Thanks.
Done, didn't realize I forgot to add the Android link.
I hear the snare beats used from classic Sonic the Hedgehog games in Tomato Funk.
A soundtrack that is as versatile as the game is deceptively simple, love it.
love zis game
When does Tomato Funk play?
Tallcat Go through all areas up to the boss without entering side rooms; you get a tomato before the boss that heals 8 health.
I DEFINITELY thought you were lying. I tried it myself just now and it worked. That just blew my fucking mind. I have 24 hours of Downwell playtime logged and I have never heard of this until now. Thank you!!!
Tallcat Well, you deserve the credit for pulling it off. But if you REALLY want bragging rights, go into hardmode with handstand style, maintain a single combo without going into side rooms, and you get a salad that heals 100 health before the boss.
woah what the FUCK you can do that?!? is there any proof
Not very good proof. If you Google "Downwell tomato" you might find some hits, but this is pretty obscure. I couldn't determine if it was real or fake until I did it myself. If you cheese it it's not that hard. Take boulder style and hope you get an early knife and fork, and a well timed apple for when you're low health. With a bit of luck you can do it even if you're as bad as I am.
Just like Hotline Miami, another Devolver Digital game, the names of the tracks are extremely cryptic and mysterious.
+Dr. Dryadma Devolver did not made these games tho.
+Poorfag-chan Yeah, they did.
+Dr. Dryadma What are publishers?
+Poorfag-chan What do you mean? Just the definition of publishers?
+Dr. Dryadma He is saying devolver only published the games. Hotline Miami was made by Dennaton Games, Downwell was made by Moppin.
👍
+Matthew Margolis yep
+Rogue Lord Kaz he meant the soundtrack itself was worth the thumbs up, not necessarily the video.
RLK you seem to not get it
